Wednesday, July 8th 2009 was a special TEDx event.

At 1:40 pm EST, TEDxNWC and TEDxPARIS convened both in physical locations in New York City and Paris.

The topic was  “The Media Earthquake”.

1:40pm –TEDx Live Speaker: Jeff Mignon, Mignon Media – NYC

Jeff Mignon is CEO and creative director of Mignon-Media, an international consulting company based in New York City. Mission : to help media companies transform and innovate. As an entrepreneur, he was also an integral part of the teams that launched itsmynews.com, 4to14.com, quelcandidat.com, and the first daily newspapers for kids in the world (currently 2.5 million readers in France). Before focusing on the business strategy of media, he has rethought and redesigned numerous publications, both print and digital; some of which have received international awards. Prior to moving to the US nine years ago, he created and ran a media consulting company in Paris, and helped to launch one in Warsaw. Jeff has also been an adjunct professor at the Paris J-school (CFPJ).

2:00pm – TEDx Live Speaker: Frederic Fillioux – Paris

Frédéric Filloux is currently editor for the international division of the Norwegian media group Schibsted ASA. In 2002, he was part of the team who launched the free daily 20 Minutes which is now the most read newspaper in France with 2.5m readers (the online version, 20minutes.fr, has about 200,000 visitors per day). Prior to that, he spent 12 years at Liberation, successively as a business reporter, New York correspondent, editor of the multimedia section, manager of online operations, and, finally, editor of the paper. He also has an experience in the advertising business after a one year stop at the Paris group BDDP agency (now TBWA). He is a graduate from the Bordeaux school of Journalism. He lives in Paris.

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx.

TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is call TEDxNWC, where x=independently organized TED event. At our TEDxNWC event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.

The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

This independent TEDx event is operated under license from TED.

Matt Knell
Matthew Knell co-founded SM4SC in the summer of 2008 and has served as its Web Technology and Marketing Consultant since the organization’s inception. A web technologist, social media professional and online marketer with a history designing, developing, and marketing a wide array of successful web products and brands including About.com, JetBlue Airways, Columbia University and MTV Networks. Matt also teaches Social Media and Information Architecture at NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies.
