We’re Due for a SupperHappyDevHouse NYC

Posted on 07 March 2009 by tony

SuperHappyDevHouse has a fantastic reputation for being an event that brings people together, educates them, networks them, and sends them out the other end with some work done and progress made.

It’s developer-focused. It’s geeky. It’s fun.

It’s awesome. The original SHDH in the Valley will be running its 31st event next week.

And look at all the other cities that have spun off their own:

Do you see something wrong with this list? Let’s look at it again:

  • Okay, fine. So we New Yorkers have our own sense of style. Maybe there’s some other sort of regular hackathon that takes place in NYC.

    Let’s google “hackathon nyc”:

    1. Flickr photos from a MT Hackathon in March 2007.
    Hooray for two years ago!

    2. Google App Engine hackathons.
Cool. But very specific, and run by Valley-based Google.

    3. WorldCat Hackathon
Late 2008. Cooler… but still one-off and specific.

Do you see what I see? A big fat hole where an amazing, fantastic, startup-machine of an event should be.

New Work City seeks to cultivate these sorts of healthy community events: ones that combine social intereaction and collaboration with real productivity and economic growth.

It’s high time NYC got itself a SHDH of its own.

We’ve got the space covered. One of you needs to be the organizer.

    Who’s in?
